It’s been quite the stretch for Megha Ganne. Two weeks ago, the rising Stanford senior won the U.S. Women’s Amateur at Bandon Dunes for her first USGA title. Now she’s back on the other side of the U.S., this time in Boston, a few hours from where she grew up.
On Tuesday she helped move her sister into Harvard while also dining on local delicacies like lobster rolls and oysters. She met with the media at TPC Boston on Wednesday, and on Thursday she teed off in the LPGA’s FM Championship, a tournament she received a sponsor’s exemption into.
Busy? Yes. Exciting? You bet.
“It’s been really fun,” Ganne, 21, said Wednesday. “I feel like I very recently came off that high when I needed to lock in for this event. But it’s been really good. That’s what’s it about. You have way more lows in golf than you do highs, so I’ve definitely been trying to ride it as long a possible and will continue to ride it even after this week is over.”
Ganne teed off at 1:43 p.m. ET on Thursday alongside Xiaowen Yin and Ina Yoon, and you can catch the action from 3-6 p.m. ET on Golf Channel. It’s Ganne’s seventh career LPGA start and she’s looking to make her second cut (and first since she tied for 14th at the 2021 U.S. Women’s Open).
“It’s definitely cool to play in these events, and I think the novelty that I feel when I’m at an LPGA Tour event is probably the biggest thing, and getting exposure to a different vibe out here is the biggest thing I look for,” Ganne said. “We play really high level amateur events and I’ve played in multiple U.S. Opens so I feel like I’m adjusted to the level of play and the field I’ll see if I do this professionally, but just the week-to-week stuff is very different out here.
“Doing things like playing a pro-am Wednesday, getting here Monday, Tuesday, the longness of the week. That stuff is all new. So I think getting exposure to that is really what I look forward to maybe to feel a little bit more comfortable when I do take that next step.”
GOLF.com sat down with Ganne earlier this week to go over other hard-hitting, rapid-fire golf questions, like her hottest golf take, lowest round, most nervous she’s been on the course, bucket-list tee time and more. You can check it out below.
