The 2024 Masters is complete, and Scottie Scheffler is a champion at Augusta National yet again. His Sunday 68 was spectacular and it helped him cruise to a four-shot victory. His prize? A green jacket, the Masters Trophy and a check for $3.6 million.

While money isn’t top of mind when it comes to winning major championships, it sure is a nice bonus. So how big is the Masters purse? And how does it compare to golf’s other top events? We break it all down below.

How big is the Masters purse?

Augusta National released the purse info on Saturday with news that the purse for the 2024 Masters had increased to $20 million. This was $2 million higher than last year and $5 million more than 2022. For his efforts, Scheffler received $3.6 million, while second-place finisher Ludvig Aberg took home $2.16 million of his own.

How does the Masters purse stack up?

The majors (along with the Players Championship) have long been the most lucrative tournaments in the sport, and with the LIV-PGA Tour divide, purses have increased across the board. Last month’s Player Championship had a total purse of $25 million, while every other Signature Event on Tour has a purse of $20 million. LIV events have weekly purses of $25 million ($20 million for the portion).

Purse info has not yet been released for the year’s three remaining majors, but we can look to past years for clues. Last year, the U.S. Open purse was $20 million, the PGA Championship’s was $17.5 million and the Open Championship’s was $16.5 million.
