Kevin Na is ripped by fellow pro for slow play, and Na trolls back

Three “old” tweets gave birth Friday to a new tiff.

In a spirited, albeit short, squabble over social media between pros Kevin Na, who is defending his title this week at the Sony Open, and Grayson Murray, who is not playing, Murray first ripped Na for slow play. And that led to this response just about three hours later:

“U missing the cut is getting old!” Na tweeted from his iPhone

Murray, who has not played since late July after announcing he is dealing with alcoholism, and missed seven cuts and withdrew twice in his nine PGA Tour events before that, drew the reply from Na after he quote-tweeted reporter Chantel McCabe.

At 10:42 p.m. ET on Thursday, McCabe tweeted: “Kevin Na walking in putts does not get old,” a reference to Na’s now-signature move, where he sometimes chases after putts shortly before he believes they’ll drop. At 4:40 p.m. on Friday, Murray responded to the tweet by writing:

“Kevin Na taking 3 minutes to putt them. does get old.”

Then, after 132 strokes over the first two rounds at Waialae Country Club, Na took another swing with his 33-character shot at 7:56 p.m. (It appears he was alerted when he was tagged in the chain.) Murray responded twice, but deleted the first.

About 40 minutes after Na’s tweet, Murray wrote: “hahah love it little guy! would never tell that to my face,” only to delete it (though it was screen-shot by users on the chain). Then, at 8:37 p.m., he tweeted: “If they penalized you like they should for slow play you’d never make another cut either.”

As of late Friday night, Na had yet to reply. He plays his third round at the Sony on Saturday.
