Hello friends and welcome to today’s edition of the Rogers Report, where we are mourning Tiger’s right achilles tendon but celebrating the fact that we are on site all week for the Players Championship.
I escaped the Boston cold and took the first flight down to Jacksonville, where I stopped for a quick Publix sub before taking my talents to the course. There’s a Publix right by the entrance of TPC Sawgrass, so I have a feeling the grocery store will be seeing a lot more of me as the week progresses. Once I arrived on site, I caught up with some pals, sat in on a handful of press conferences and then walked five or so holes to check out the course.
Good news, folks: the place is in spectacular shape. My coworker James Colgan and I went to take a look at the new overhanging tree on the 6th tee and friends, this thing is no joke.
It’s humbling to know that it’d take me about five shots to clear this thing if I were to tee it up at TPC Sawgrass.
I’m no golf course-architecture geek, but I am definitely excited to see how the pros deal with this tree once the tournament starts. Bring it on, Pete Dye.
Rob Gronkowski at TPC Sawgrass
I’ll be honest: I don’t know much about Rob Gronkowski. I know he was a Patriots superstar, that his girlfriend is hilarious on TikTok and that he sometimes appears in Tom Brady’s Instagram posts. I definitely did not expect him to be at the Players Championship on Tuesday morning.
I’ll admit that I didn’t have a Rob Gronkowski and Will Zalatoris collab on my 2025 golf bingo card. I wish I could have witnessed this in person because I guarantee it was very entertaining. My main takeaway from this whole thing is just how small Gronk makes a Titleist staff bag look. He could have a full career as a PGA Tour caddie if he wanted to. I mean, it practically looks like he’s carrying a Sunday bag.
Adam Scott’s refreshing take
Merger this! Merger that! To the surprise of absolutely no one, not much of an update was provided on the PGA Tour-PIF merger front on Tuesday, but that doesn’t mean the pros weren’t asked about it. In fact, they were asked about it a lot.
There’s been a lot of redundancy on this topic over the last few months, but Adam Scott’s take on the whole thing was extremely refreshing.
“It was an incredible experience to be at the White House and be in the Oval Office and see the goings-on of what’s happening in Washington D.C., but it’s not something that I really feel like I need to or want to spend more time on. I want to play better golf, to be perfectly honest with you. That would be nice. I probably should spend that time practicing.”
This piqued my interest. I’ve never been inside the White House; my knowledge of what it’s like in there is limited to Getty Images and old episodes of Disney Channel’s “Corey in the House.” So when I asked Scott the coolest thing about his visit there, I assumed it’d be a catered lunch or something. His answer was better than I imagined it’d be.
“It was obvious to me very quickly when they were setting up for the Israeli delegation right after our meeting and putting like the Israeli flag and the U.S. flag and getting that room ready that our conversation was pretty low in the importance of what was happening that day. And really, the President had far more important things to focus on, and I encouraged him to go and do that well for everyone’s sake after our meeting.”
Fair enough!
Pat Perez’s house hits the market
PGA Tour pro turned LIV golfer turned LIV analyst Pat Perez’s old house just hit the market, and if you’re anything like me, you’re wildly curious to take a look at the inside of it. Don’t worry folks, I’ve got you covered.
I remember seeing Instagram stories of his old Scottsdale home over the last few years and noting how unique it was decorated. It’s mostly black and white with a ton of artwork, and for a while a lot of the interior was marked with Perez’s initials and logo. The house and views are incredible, and for $12.7 million, it could all be yours! Let’s take a look.
The 9,712 square-foot home has four beds and six baths, a pool, a game room, a movie theater, a sport court, an outdoor kitchen, a sparkling pool with multiple walking paths, a jacuzzi and a sunken conversation pit.
This looks so, so similar to where they filmed “High School Musical 2.” In other words, I’m all in on my support of whoever ends up buying this home. And can we take a moment to appreciate that shoe collection? I’ll admit I was a bit surprised to learn that there’s no putting green or practice area, but that would be no issue for a gal like me. Between all of the amenities and the view, I’d be just fine posting up here.
You can view the Zillow listing here. Happy scrolling, my friends.
Jason Day’s Masters fits
Last week, Jason Day explained that he’s waiting for Augusta National to approve his Masters looks. “So we have to get clearance on the scripting this year. To Malbon’s credit, they’ve got some bold stuff, but I’m not sure if it’ll pass.”
This got me thinking: What is the most ridiculous thing Jason Day (or really anyone) could wear to the Masters?
I had some fun with it on X, but now I want to seriously think about this. If last year’s Malbon vest got nixed, what could the brand have up their sleeves this year? Overalls? A green jacket … that would get worn under the green jacket if Day were to win? The fact that they had to ask permission is making me extremely curious. Malbon, I beg of you: please release the scripting proposals even if Augusta National rejects Day’s outfits. The people need to know what his looks could have been.
Josh Allen’s bachelor party
Josh Allen and his squad attended TGL last week to watch Atlanta Drive take down Jupiter Links in their final match of the regular season. And after that, he got to catch up with Tiger for a few minutes before he and his bachelor party teed it up at SoFi Center themselves.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: There’s nothing cooler than watching the most talented people on the planet nerd out over golf. It’s the great equalizer for many of us, and Josh Allen is no exception. Also, talk about a dream bachelor party. He and his pals got to watch Tiger tee it up and then play at the indoor arena, which to me seems like a total dream. Matt Fitzpatrick brought his wife and brother to do the same thing a few weeks ago. It’s like hitting the simulator with your friends, if the simulator was a million times cooler. Talk about a perfect spot to hang out with your friends!
And that’s not all. The next morning, Allen’s bachelor party continued at Ohoopee Match Club, which is a bucket-list course for almost all golf nerds out there.
As far as golf-themed bachelor parties go, it truly doesn’t get better than this. I can only hope his wedding is half as fun. Kidding!
