Jordan Spieth, Zach Johnson Wager Dinner Over the Best First Pitch

August 18, 2015

Newly crowned World No. 1 Jordan Spieth had the opportunity Tuesday night to show off his athleticism in an unusual place: the pitcher’s mound at Globe Life Park in Arlington, home of the Texas Rangers.

And, after a friendly twitter battle with Zach Johnson, Spieth took home some money for his charity as well.

Spieth threw out the first pitch ahead of the Rangers’ game against the Seattle Mariners, and this year’s British Open winner, Johnson, had the same honor Tuesday night at Wrigley Field before the Chicago Cubs played the Detroit Tigers. After they found out each other was doing the same thing that night, a twitter battle ensued. They settled on sending $5,000 to the charity of whoever had the better pitch.

But let’s have them tell the story:

Here’s a look at Spieth’s pitch (he’s a lefty). Spieth’s foundation also received a check from the Rangers Foundation (which included a typo in “Foundation”).
