Jordan Spieth’s best-man speech at Justin Thomas’ wedding had this A+ line

How much would you pay to watch Jordan Spieth’s best man speech at Justin Thomas’ wedding?

That was a question one of our writers posted on X (previously Twitter) in November 2022. It was “liked” by more than 1,500 people, which tells you all you need to know: golf fans would have loved to been in the room for that speech.

Thomas’ wedding to Jillian Wisniewski, however, was ultra-private; cell phones weren’t even allowed. That means there’s little — if any — evidence of the best-man speech that Spieth gave for his long-time pal.

All we have is just the word of those who were there in person, including the groom, Thomas, who was the guest on this week’s episode of GOLF’s Subpar. During the interview, the two-time major champ was asked how he would grade Spieth as a best man.

‘You are not good enough’ to do this: Justin Thomas’ go-to advice for amateurs

“I hate to do this, but man, he crushed it,” Thomas said. “I’ll give him an A+. He didn’t lose the rings, which, if you know Jordan, that’s always on the table. He had a great speech. Didn’t throw me under the bus but also had a few subtle jabs in there.

“He had a great opening line to his speech. It was something like… what’s the line from Wedding Crashers?

Thomas couldn’t remember it exactly. He tried to find the words (as you can see in the video clip above) but couldn’t muster the exact phrase. Lucky for him, Google knows it. Here’s what he was referring to, which came from Claire Cleary, who was played by Rachel McAdams: “True love is the soul’s recognition of its counterpoint in another.”

Only Spieth tacked this addendum: “…and I’ve always known that to be true for Justin and I.” [Laughs]

“It was funny,” Thomas said. “But I gotta give him an A+. He did well.”
