They can come. They can eat. Drink. They can cheer.
But just don’t expect Ben Griffin to be friendly to his friends. At least not overly so.
Not until Sunday night.
No offense.
Griffin, you see, is leading the Sanderson Farms Championship through 54 holes. And he’s stuck to a routine through 54 holes. Same therapy after rounds at the Country Club of Jackson. Same breakfast. Same lunch. Same restaurant for dinner — a Thai place called Jutamas. Same entourage — just Griffin.
And he wants to keep it that way.
Why ruin a good thing?
No offense.
“I’m sure I’ll have family and friends show up tomorrow,” Griffin said Saturday night. “Right now, I’m solo. I don’t know if I play better that way or not, but I’m not going to try to change anything. I had a couple friends that asked if they wanted to come the other day, and I was like, you can do whatever you want, but I’m not going to try to change myself and work with your plans.
“I don’t know, I’m just being so superstitious right now, but I’m a golfer, I’m in sports. Everyone has their superstitions. I’m going to try to do the same stuff. I’m going to have family and friends out tomorrow, I’m sure, but I’m going to be focused on the course and just try to do the same stuff with Alex [caddie Alex Ritthamel] tomorrow on the course, just focus on our game plan and try to execute.”
With that, Golf Channel coverage of the third round of the Sanderson starts at 4 p.m. ET. In addition, Peacock will provide a live simulcast of Golf Channel’s coverage.
