Young guns Viktor Hovland and Kris Ventura stormed out of the gates in the opening round in New Orleans, combining for a 10-under 62 that gave them the early lead at the unique event. But plenty of other star-studded teams are right on their heels.

Team Tony Finau/Cameron Champ and Billy Horschel/Sam Burns were two of several groups tied one shot back at nine under. Meanwhile, Xander Schauffele and Patrick Cantlay, as well as Bubba Watson and Scottie Scheffler, are in the mix at eight under.

For Round 2 on Friday, all teams will switch from a four-ball format, where each player plays his own ball, to an alternate-shot foursomes format — a change that could benefit some teams while hurting others.
