The most prestigious amateur championship in the women’s game is coming to a close this weekend, with four players and two matches remaining to determine the champion at the 2024 U.S. Women’s Amateur at Southern Hills Country Club in Tulsa, Okla.

The contenders: Maria Jose Marin and Asterisk Talley, and Kendall Todd and Rianne Malixi, who play their semi-final matches against each other on Saturday morning, with the winner of each respective match moving on to the 36-hole final.

Marin, 18, is from Colombia, and, like Talley and Todd, is competing in her very first U.S. Women’s Am. She’s a rising sophomore at the University of Arkansas and was the No. 1 seed in match play after posting scores of 69-69 in the stroke-play portion of the tournament. Her semi-final opponent, Talley, 15, is also a rising sophomore, but she’s attending high school at Chowchilla Union in California.

Talley already has a USGA championship under her belt after winning the 2024 U.S. Women’s Amateur Four-Ball Championship alongside Sarah Lim earlier this year. She also shared low-am honors at the 2024 U.S. Women’s Open.

Todd, the eldest remaining competitor at 21 years old, calls Marin a teammate at the University of Arkansas, where Todd is a rising senior. Her semi-final opponent, Malixi, is 17 years old and hails from the Phillippines. Malixi is playing her fourth Women’s Am and is taking her talents to Duke University next fall. After winning the 2024 U.S. Girls’ Junior earlier this year, Malixi is looking to become only the second player ever to win the U.S. Girls’ Junior and U.S. Women’s Amateur in the same year.

The semi-final winners will face each other in a 36-hole final match. The first 18 will be played on Saturday afternoon, with the second 18 being played on Sunday.
