Golf is coming back to the red carpet, and it’s all thanks to Happy Gilmore.

On Tuesday morning, Adam Sandler released the latest trailer for Happy Gilmore 2, the sequel to golf’s cult-classic favorite movie. The trailer is the second release from Netflix — the first arrived around Super Bowl Sunday — spotlighting the new film, which is set to debut to golf fans on the streaming giant later this summer.

The trailer features many of golf’s biggest modern stars — including Justin Thomas, Rory McIlroy, Scottie Scheffler and Bryson DeChambeau — alongside many of Happy Gilmore‘s old heads. Sandler will reprise his role as the hockey player-turned-golfer at the center of the film, while Christoper McDonald will return in his role as Shooter McGavin. Other sports-and-film stars expected to make cameos in the film include Travis Kelce, Benny Safdie, Bad Bunny and Nick Swardson.

The film will debut to streaming audiences everywhere on July 25, ending a 14-month-long production process that included a shoot with many of the best golfers in the world in the fall. Golf fans earned a fascinating glimpse into that production process in season three of Netflix’s Full Swing, which included behind-the-scenes access captured by Chad Mumm’s Pro Shop Studios, which is helping out with the production.

According to Deadline, Sandler wrote the sequel script for the movie alongside Happy Gilmore‘s original co-writer, Tim Herlihy, and produced the film with Happy Madison, his production company named (in part) for the Gilmore movie.

Netflix, which has an outstanding production relationship with Sandler, ordered the movie last spring. The streamer is hoping to capitalize on golf’s Covid popularity surge with the movie, joining other streamers like AppleTV in ordering golf-related programming. Happy Gilmore‘s existing intellectual property and popularity with broader sports audiences make the sequel a natural fit in the current entertainment landscape — particularly considering the streamer-director partnerships that have made up a considerably larger piece of the entertainment business in the streaming era.
