We are one round in to the 2020 Genesis Invitational, which is played at the revered Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades, Calif. It’s a notoriously tough course, and Round 1 was no exception, as only 41 players — roughly a third of the field — managed to fire a round under par.
One player who would love to have a repeat of Thursday’s play is current leader Matt Kuchar, who lit up the course with a perfect scorecard that included seven birdies and zero bogeys. It all added up to a round of seven-under-par 64, which leads the field by three (!) shots heading into Round 2. Kuchar is seeking his tenth career win this week. The 41-year-old Tour veteran tees off at 3:13 p.m. ET on Friday alongside Hideki Matsuyama and Russell Knox.
Another player of interest is tournament host Tiger Woods, who is five shots behind Kuchar after an opening round of two-under-par 69. The Big Cat will start his second round bright and early at 10:16 a.m. with first-round partners Justin Thomas and Steve Stricker.
World No. 1 Rory McIlroy is also in good position after posting a 68 on Thursday. He’s four shots back, and will play with Patrick Cantlay and Dustin Johnson at 2:41 p.m. ET on Friday.
