After a short two-week hiatus, PGA Tour golf is back this week with the Procore Championship at Silverado in Napa, Calif. There’s a lot of star power in the field this week, with 10 of the 12 players on the U.S. Ryder Cup team set to tee it up, but for players who aren’t on this year’s team, there are still plenty of reasons to compete over the next several weeks.
Why? The Procore Championship marks the start of the PGA Tour’s FedEx Cup Fall: a seven-tournament series that begins with the Procore and ends with the RSM Classic in November.
What’s at stake?
The FedEx Cup Fall tournaments will finalize players’ standings heading into the 2026 PGA Tour season. Basically, the tournament series provides players who finished outside of the top 50 in the FedEx Cup points standings with additional opportunities to improve their status for the 2026 season.
At the conclusion of the FedEx St. Jude in August, the top 50 players in the FedEx Cup points standings were locked in for the 2026 season. That means they are fully exempt for every PGA Tour event, including the Players Championship and all nine Signature Events in 2026.

Every player who finished in the top 70 and qualified for the FedEx St. Jude is also fully exempt, including the Players Championship, but Nos. 51-70 can use the Fall series to compete with the rest of the players outside of the top 50 for Signature Event access. Why do Signature Events matter? They’re limited-field events featuring top players with increased prize money ($20 million) and FedExCup points. Six of the nine Signature Events are no-cut tournaments, meaning a generous paycheck is guaranteed.
How does the FedEx Cup Fall work?
All FedEx Cup points earned through the FedEx St. Jude will carry over into the Fall series. That means No. 51, Chris Kirk, is currently leading the charge. At the end of the Fall series (the conclusion of the RSM Classic in November), the players ranked Nos. 51-60 in the FedEx Cup standings will qualify for the first two Signature Events after the Sentry in 2026, via the Aon Next 10. The top 125 players earn PGA Tour cards, and Nos. 125-150 will earn conditional status.
