As if there wasn’t enough going on at the PGA Championship on Friday, Valhalla yielded an additional OMG moment when a fan stripped down to his underwear — and, inexplicably, remained in his socks — to retrieve a pro’s club from a water hazard.

Exactly how the club entered the water remains unclear, but it appears the club belongs to Adam Hadwin, which was further confirmed by Hadwin’s wife Jessica’s posts on social media following the retrieval.

What also remains unclear is how the fan was recruited for duty. But if social media stardom was the goal, mission accomplished! As an aside, Hadwin does have a history of epic club tosses — a skill he most recently demonstrated at the Players Championship.

Thankfully, the club wasn’t very deeply submerged in the water, so the fan was able to make quick business of grabbing it and returning it to a grateful Hadwin. Here’s hoping he came away with a memento — perhaps a signed towel? — for his trouble.

Hadwin made the cut after posting rounds of 68-72 (-2) to sit at T52 heading into the third round. He’ll tee off at 12:50 p.m. ET alongside Grayson Murray and Ryan Fox.
