Early Masters leader Dustin Johnson just did something he’s never done before

Dustin Johnson’s stellar opening round of seven-under 65 at Augusta National took him two days to finish, but that’s not actually the most remarkable thing about it.

The 36-year-old, who is playing in his 10th Masters, just did something he’s never done before at Augusta National: He played an entire round without a bogey.

DJ has a strong record at the Masters, especially over his last four appearances, in which he hasn’t finished outside of the top 10. Last year, Johnson tied for second, his best finish ever.

Johnson’s success at Augusta has led many observers to believe that a green jacket is inevitable for him at some point, and based on his performance thus far, this could be the year. The last time a World No. 1 won the Masters was all the way back in 2002, when Tiger Woods won.

Johnson’s error-free first round included five birdies and an eagle. The best news for DJ fans? Thanks to Thursday’s three-hour weather delay, after completing his first round, he was able to keep the momentum going by starting his second round right away.

And he just kept on rolling, kicking off his round by lighting up Amen Corner. After a par at 10, Johnson birdied the 11th, 12th and 13th holes to move to 10 under, giving him, in that moment, a three-shot lead. A hole later, Johnson made his first bogey of the week, then splashed his second shot at 15, leading to another bogey. He’s currently at eight under, in a tie for the lead.
