Former MLB player Cody Ross breaks down his caught-on-camera Pebble Beach ace

Cody Ross had a 12-year MLB career that included a 2010 NLCS MVP and, more importantly, a World Series title with the San Francisco Giants a couple of weeks later. While the former outfielder says winning the World Series, along with his first home run, first grand slam and hitting a homer in the World Series are his greatest achievements in baseball, there’s one moment that sticks out among his greatest non-baseball athletic accomplishments.

It’s a doozy: a hole-in-one on Pebble Beach’s famous par-3 7th hole. And it was all caught on camera.

Ross recently joined Colt Knost and Drew Stoltz on GOLF’s Subpar Podcast to talk MLB life, golf and more, and during one segment he broke down his epic ace. It happened in 2019 when he was playing Pebble Beach during a USGA event to promote the U.S. Open later that summer.

“It was like 97 yards, the tee was up a little bit, my caddie that I had was like, ‘Listen’ — the wind was blowing from right to left — ‘if you wanna get this close you are going to have to take it over the edge of the green, which is the ocean,'” Ross said. “And I’m like, Oh, I’m not here to lay up. I hit this perfect shot, and on video you can see it, and it goes right behind the hole and I thought I dunked it, and then all of a sudden I see it hit, and it rips back and it went in, and I threw my club in the air.”

An ace on a hole that’s hard to top, no doubt.

“I actually don’t ever want to make another one,” Ross said.

Check out the video of Ross’ hole-in-one here, and you can listen to his entire Subpar interview below.
