UPDATE: Hull posted to her Instagram on Friday, saying: “Not the @evianchamp I was hoping for. Been struggling with a virus all week but it got the better of me yesterday… thanks to the medics who took care of me and to all those who have reached out with messages of support, it’s really appreciated. Happy to say I’m feeling a lot better today, just gutted I can’t play the weekend at such a fantastic tournament.”

Charley Hull has withdrawn from the Evian Championship after the World No. 19 reportedly collapsed twice on the 4th tee box during Thursday’s opening round at Evian Resort Golf Club in Evian-les-Bains, France.

Hull’s group started on the 10th hole and she made the turn in one under, but Hull was shown sitting hunched over by a bunker on the 3rd hole. Golf Channel reported she collapsed when she got to the 4th tee. After taking a 15-minute medical break and allowing one group to play through, Hull attempted to hit her tee shot but collapsed for a second time. She was put on a stretcher and taken away via golf cart. She withdrew from the tournament.

Sky Sports commentator Richard Kaufman later said on the broadcast that Hull has been battling a virus this week.

Hull, 29, was one under when she reached the 4th hole. The current leaders are six under after 18 holes.

Following some treatment, The Times of London reported that Hull was sitting up and talking but struggling with her eyesight, adding, “I was playing pretty well but I feel faint.”

The Evian Championship is the fourth of five women’s majors. Hull has tied for 12th in her last two starts, both majors.
