The long wait is over: golf fans will finally get a chance to watch their favorite pro golfers compete on live TV again at the PGA Tour’s Charles Schwab Challenge. Thursday’s first round will be the first round played on Tour in over three months. Here’s what you need to know to follow the opening round action.
Charles Schwab Challenge preview
The field at the Charles Schwab Challenge is stacked top to bottom with the biggest names on the PGA Tour (except for Tiger Woods, that is). All of the golfers ranked in the top 5 in the Official World Golf Ranking will be teeing it up at Colonial Country Club, including World No. 1 Rory McIlroy.
Players will tee off in threesomes across two tees for Thursday’s first round, and tournament organizers have some star-studded groupings planned. Look no further than the 2:06 p.m. ET tee time, which features McIlroy, World No. 2 Jon Rahm, and four-time major champion Brooks Koepka (No. 3).
Immediately before that group hits the 1st tee, another trio of fan favorites will begin their rounds: Justin Thomas, Rickie Fowler and Jordan Spieth (1:55 p.m. ET). Phil Mickelson will get things started early Thursday morning at 8:45 a.m. ET (7:45 a.m. local time), playing alongside 2019 U.S. Open winner Gary Woodland and defending champion Kevin Na.
The 8:46 a.m. CT tee time will be reserved for a moment of silence to honor the memory of George Floyd and to amplify “the voices and efforts underway to end systemic issues of racial and social injustices impacting our country,” according to the PGA Tour.
