Caddie collapses and dies during PGA Tour Latinoamérica event in Mexico

Caddie Alberto Olguín died during a PGA Tour Latinoamérica tournament on Thursday.

Tragedy struck the PGA Tour Latinoamérica on Thursday, when a caddie collapsed on the course and died during the first round of the Dev Series Final in Nuevo Vallarta, Mexico.

According to an official statement from the PGA Tour Latinoamérica, Alberto Olguín, a caddie from Mexico City working for Venezuelan pro Manuel Torres, “collapsed on the ninth tee at approximately 3 p.m. CDT.”

Despite the best efforts of emergency personnel on the scene who performed CPR and transported him to a local hospital, Olguín “was pronounced dead at 3:57 p.m.”

Having started on the 10th tee, Olguín had nearly finished the round at the time he collapsed on the final hole. No cause of death was given.

“The PGA Tour Latinoamérica Executive Director Todd Rhinehart and the entire Tour staff extends its sympathy to the Olguín family,” the statement read. “The Tour plans to honor Olguín later this week.”
