Bryson DeChambeau will be out at least another week. The World No. 12 withdrew from next week’s Players Championship late on Sunday night, which comes less than a week after he announced he wouldn’t defend his title at the Arnold Palmer Invitational due to a lingering wrist and hip injury. “I just feel like it’s too short of time for me to get back to 100 percent and playing at 100-percent capacity,” DeChambeau said last week, explaining why he’d miss Bay Hill. “Right now I’m like 90 percent and I just don’t want to go out there and hurt myself even more and not be 100 percent ready for the rest of the season.”
He added in the video that he’d try to play the Players Championship, which will increase to a $20 million purse this year, but now we know that’s not happening. The PGA Tour confirmed his WD on Sunday night; Hayden Buckley took DeChambeau’s spot.
DeChambeau hasn’t played in a month and has made just three starts in 2022. In his last one, at the Saudi International in early February, he withdrew after the first round due to injuries. He hasn’t been back since.
Now comes the next big-time event we’ll wait to see if DeChambeau is healthy enough to play: the Masters is April 7-10.
