If Wednesday at the PGA Championship is speculation day, Thursday is the reality check.

After days of practice-round rumors, continual status updates and infinite wondering, play finally began at Oak Hill.

The story of the day? Bryson DeChambeau, who emerged as the clubhouse leader in the frost-delayed opening round with a score of four-under 66.

Post-round, DeChambeau described his new diet and the difficulty of coming back from his hand injury. He said his energy is now better and more consistent. GOLF’s Dylan Dethier asked DeChambeau what would constitute a successful week for him.

“A win,” DeChambeau responded. “Doesn’t mean it’s gonna happen. But that would be great.”

Meanwhile, Tom Kim was making the rounds on social media for a different reason — a full-body mud tumble into a swamp.

Golf! Never a dull moment.
