Brooks Koepka’s girlfriend gave him a haircut … and it went horribly wrong

Brooks Koepka and Jena Sims

Like many people across the country and the world, Brooks Koepka and his girlfriend Jena Sims have had a lot of free time on their hands recently. Life in coronavirus-induced quarantine has also meant that Koepka’s normal hair salon is closed for business.

This week, those two realities conspired together to create a borderline follicle disaster that would make any hair stylist cringe.

With no golf to be played and his hair growing unimpeded, Koepka decided to do something that a lot of people are trying while in lockdown: an at-home, DIY haircut. But as thousands of people have discovered in recent weeks, there’s a reason cosmetology school exists.

Instead of attempting to butcher his own do, Koepka tapped his longtime girlfriend Jena Sims to do her worst. And her worst she did.

In a video the four-time major champ posted on Twitter Thursday, Koepka can be seen hiding beneath a winter hat while looking nervously at the camera.

“This isn’t coming out for a while,” Koepka says as Sims tears off the hat to reveal the result of her handy work. It appears that Sims went for the high-and-tight type buzz cut popular with members of the U.S. armed forces. Instead, Sims completely shave the sides of Brooks’ head, while leaving an amorphous crop of hair of inconsistent length on top.

The written description fails to do it justice, so it’s best you check it for yourself below.

Sims’ also documented the incident on her Instagram stories, where she explained her extensive preparation that was ultimately done in vain.

Fortunately for Brooks, he’ll have a lot of time to grow his hair out and fix Jena’s mess before he has to go out in public again. Last week, Koepka revealed that so far he’s spent his time off working out, “chilling,” and not playing any golf. But that could change very soon.

The PGA Tour aims to resume its suspended season in mid-June at the Charles Schwab Challenge, which they hope will be the start of an action-packed condensed season. Even if his hair hasn’t recovered by then, he can conceal underneath a Nike hat. By the time the PGA Championship rolls around in August, it should be in good enough shape for a public reveal on the 18th green as he celebrates his third-straight PGA win.
