The breakdown of Dustin Johnson’s money in 2020 is ridiculous

Dustin Johnson, in 2020, did not win a penny at the Charles Schwab Challenge in June, the PGA Tour’s first tournament after its three-month break. He did not win a nickel at the Memorial in July, his first tournament after winning the Travelers Championship. DJ did not win a dime at the 3M Open, the event after the Memorial.

He won 2,438,536,040 pennies across his other tournaments. (Over 2 billion!)

Or 487,707,208 nickels.

Or 243,853,604 dimes.

Or 24,385,360 singles — and 40 cents.

Johnson, in 18 tournaments last year, earned $24,385,360.40. GolfTV recently broke down his PGA Tour earnings — $23,954,307 in 17 events — to show what he made per round, hole and stroke. We’ve included his lone European Tour start to those stats, the Saudi International in late January and early February, along with a few other numbers.

In 2020, as first calculated by GolfTV, Johnson made $392,694 over his 61 Tour rounds. And $21,816 over his 1,098 holes. And $5,703 over his 4,200 strokes. (Such an even number!) When you include his four rounds at the Saudi International, where he finished second and won $431,053.45 (when converted from Euros), DJ made $375,159.39 over his 65 rounds, $20,842.19 over his 1,170 holes, and $5,455.34 over his 4,470 strokes.

Of course, those numbers go up if you take out the Charles Schwab and the Memorial, where Johnson missed the cut, and the 3M, where he withdrew after the first round. Over the 15 total events where Johnson cashed, he made $406,422.67 over 60 rounds. And $22,579.04 over 1,080 holes. And $5,962.19 over 4,090 strokes.

DJ also made $88,352.76 for his 276 birdies. And $1,283,449.02 for his 19 eagles. Across his 17 PGA Tour events (and using his $23,954,307 total), DJ made $46,969.23 for his 510 fairways hit (out of a possible 853). And $31,109,.49 for his 770 greens hit. (The stats for these categories from the Saudi International were not readily available.)

He’s not done making money, either. In 2021, Johnson plans to pocket more pennies. And nickels. And dimes.

“Yeah, I feel like I’m not going to dial anything back,” Johnson said after his win at the Masters, his final tournament of 2020. “ I feel really good about everything that I’m doing. I feel really confident in the golf game. You know, I want to — my goal is to play for about, I don’t know, keeps getting shorter, but eight, nine, maybe 10 years.

“So until then, I’m going to work my butt off to be as good as I can.”
