Abraham Ancer won the Australian Open last year with Miura irons in the bag. Ancer doesn’t intend to change irons brands this season, but he’ll have a few new additions in the bag, including a club from Miura that’s yet to be released to the general public in the CB-301 model.
The fully forged cavity-back iron is a viable option for Ancer in the long irons with more offset — which should add workability — than the MC-501 blades he’s also using at the moment. The updated version of the CB-301 provides a level of forgiveness that some players have gravitted towards at the top of the bag. The slightly wider sole should also help with turf interaction.
Ancer is the first Tour player to be photographed with the CB-301. From a full set perspective, the iron should appeal to better players and mid-handicappers who are looking for more forgiveness but don’t want necessarily want a bulky profile.
Ancer’s MC-501 muscleback blades were also recently released by Miura and replaced his MB-5005 irons from last season. The new set has his logo stamped on the toe — a custom touch that initially began with his Artisan Golf wedges.
With Ancer adding fresh, custom Miura irons to the bag, it’s possible some sort of deal could be in the works for this year with the Japanese-based equipment manufacturer.
