Matt McCarty has quietly recorded three top-10s and seven top-25 finishes already this season. Now he’s trying to start May with a bang.

McCarty, who has one PGA Tour win in his career, fired an eight-under 63 on Thursday at Qual Hollow to take the early lead at this week’s Signature Event. One shot back in second place is Sungjae Im at seven under. But he is among several players who failed to complete their opening rounds on Thursday due to a lengthy weather delay.

They’ll return Friday morning to finish up Round 1 before the second round gets underway as scheduled at 11 a.m. ET.

Rory McIlroy shot a one-under 70 on Day 1 and will start Round 2 seven shots back.
