U.S. Open Subpar picks: Favorite bets of the week

As the opening round of the U.S. Open nears, Scottie Scheffler is trending in the right direction and already the best player in the world, but how do we assess Rory McIlroy’s game?

In the latest episode of GOLF’s Subpar podcast, co-hosts Colt Knost and Drew Stoltz dished on that topic plus their favorite bets and props for the 2025 U.S. Open, which begins Thursday at Oakmont Country Club in Oakmont, Pa.

For his Fanatics Sportsbook bet of the week, Stoltz picked Collin Morikawa to top 10 (+210).

“I’m going to go with my guy, who I think represents the best chance outside of Scottie Scheffler,” Stoltz said. “[Morikawa is] second in driving accuracy on the PGA Tour. Iron play, Scottie is the best, but Collin is up there. He’s finished top 20 in five of his last six majors, so he plays well on the biggest stage. And his last four U.S. Opens he’s finished 4th, 5th, 14th and 14th. I think he can really challenge Scottie the way he peppers fairways over and over.”

For his top-10 bet, Knost picked Xander Schauffele (+210). Schauffele has finished top 10 in the Open in seven of his eight appearances. The only time he didn’t was in 2022, when he tied for 14th.

“I know he was hurt earlier in the year, but I fell like he’s going to start rounding into form,” Knost said. “And he loves the U.S. Open.”

Scheffler is the betting favorite to win the U.S. Open, with +280 odds. Bryson DeChambeau (+750), Jon Rahm (+1200), McIlroy (+1200) and Schauffele (+2200) round out the top five.
