Heading into the opening round of the Tour Championship, there’s only one question worth asking: Can anyone stop Scottie Scheffler’s march to a second consecutive FedEx Cup title?
The World No. 1 has dominated for much of the PGA Tour season, picking up five wins and two major titles to keep a comfortable perch atop the FedEx Cup standings all year long. But none of that matters anymore. The only factor that will determine who hoists the Cup on Sunday is the next 72 holes of golf.
Ride Scottie Scheffler or take props at Tour Championship?
Scheffler’s playing partner could be one of his biggest hurdles to a sixth win this season. World No. 2 Rory McIlroy has been shaky of late, but any week he could summon the greatness that helped him win the 2025 Masters. If he brings his best game this week and triumphs at East Lake, it will be his fourth-career FedEx Cup title.
Scheffler and McIlroy will play alongside each other in the final pairing on Thursday, teeing off for Round 1 at 2 p.m. ET.
