Open Championship Subpar picks: Favorite bets of the week

There are lots of reasons to like Jon Rahm this week. He’s yet to win this year on LIV Golf but has still played well, and his key stats correlate well to Royal Portrush, home to this week’s Open Championship.

He’s played well at the majors, too, with top-10 finishes in each of his last two starts. He’s also finished top 10 in the last two Open Championships and tied for 11th when The Open was last at Royal Portrush, back in 2019.

This, of course, is why Subpar podcast co-hosts Colt Knost and Drew Stoltz are big on Rahm this week.

“I am very, very high on Jon Rahm this week,” Stoltz said, as the Subpar duo went through their Fanatics Sportsbook bets of the week for the final major of the season. “Maybe as high as I have been on him in a major championship in a good while. He’s been playing just solid, good golf all year. Still shocking to me he doesn’t seem to win as much as I would expect over on LIV … but he seems to never play bad.”

Added Knost: “I think Jon Rahm is going to be your Open champion this year; I really do.”

Knost also picked Tommy Fleetwood to top 10 (+250) for his favorite bet of the week. Fleetwood has yet to win a major but was the runner-up here in 2019. Stoltz also likes Tyrrell Hatton to top 20 (+130).

Scottie Scheffler is the betting favorite (+450) to win the Open Championship, with Rory McIlroy (+700) and Rahm (+1200) trailing him in the odds. Bryson DeChambeau and Fleetwood are next at +2000.
