The opening-round of the new-look LIV team championship at LIV Michigan was an exciting one. Twelve teams faced off in six head-to-head matches, providing some expected results and at least one big upset.
Jon Rahm’s Legion XIII, the top-seeded team heading into this week, defeated Cleeks GC to advance to Saturday. No. 2 Crushers GC, captained by Bryson DeChambeau, did the same, besting Majesticks GC 2-1 to move on as expected.

But in matchup No. 3, Phil Mickelson’s HyFlyers pulled off an underdog win, with the 10th-ranked team knocking out Sergio Garcia’s third-ranked Fireballs GC GC 3-0.
The other three teams advancing to Saturday’s semifinals are Torque GC, Smash GC and Stinger GC.
The format will remain the same for Saturday’s action. The six winning teams will face off in three matchups in the Championship Bracket to determine which three teams make the finals. The six losing teams from Friday will compete in the Rankings Bracket on Saturday. Each matchup will consist of three matches, two singles and one alternate shot competition. Each of those matches counts for 1 point. The team to reach 2 points first advances to the next round.
