It’s been a long couple of weeks on the PGA Tour and the gauntlet stretch comes to an end this Sunday at the Travelers Championship.
Most of the game’s top players are playing three weeks in a row or more after the Signature Event at the Memorial, the U.S. Open and now the final of the $20 million Signature Events series this week in Connecticut.
For Akshay Bhatia, who entered the final round one shot behind Tom Kim, tied for second with Scottie Scheffler at 17 under, he’s in the midst of an even more grueling run. Bhatia hasn’t taken a week off since before the Wells Fargo Championship, seven weeks ago at the start of May.
“I’m playing great. I mean, this is why I’m playing, this is seven in a row for me, I just want to keep building on good golf and kind of learning as I go,” the now-two-time PGA Tour winner Bhatia said Friday. “I feel like I’ve been working really hard on my technique especially this week, and I feel like my coach and I have found a feel that works, so we’re just kind of trying to build on that and focus on that as much as I can.”
Making matters even more grueling for Bhatia and the rest of the field this week is the extreme heat wave gripping the Northeast. Bhatia said he and his caddie have a challenge this week to see who can drink the most water.
Scheffler is doing the same, even with a newborn in the family. But that didn’t slow him down from winning his sixth PGA Tour title of the year and his second in the last three weeks.
And with a massive payday this week, he’ll be well rewarded for the grind. In fact, Scheffler has won four of the last five Signature Events on the PGA Tour and the one he didn’t win? He didn’t play. The other two events he’s won this season? The Players and the Masters.
With that, below you can check out the complete payout breakdown for this week’s final Signature Event of 2024 at the Travelers Championship. The total purse is $20 million.
