Scottie Scheffler might be the betting favorite to win the Texas Children’s Houston Open at Memorial Park Golf Course on Sunday, but he’ll have plenty of eager chasers, many of them still searching for their first PGA Tour victory.

Scheffler, winner of the last two events he’s played, holds the 54-hole co-lead of nine under along with David Skinns, Stephan Jaeger, Alejandro Tosti and Thomas Detry.

Besides Scheffler, no one with a share of the lead has a PGA Tour win. But all three players at eight under, one off the lead — Nick Dunlap, Taylor Moore and Akshay Bhatia — have won on Tour. There’s also four other players at seven under — a group headlined by defending champ Tony Finau — who are just two shots back.

So if Scheffler is going to be the first player since 2017 to win three straight starts, there’s a big group he’ll need to break away from.

“Winning the last two doesn’t help me do anything tomorrow,” Scheffler said on Saturday, after his four-under 66. “I think it’s going to be another pretty challenging day out there with high winds. Stick to my process and control what I can control.”
