This week the PGA Tour stays put for the 2024 Sony Open in Hawaii, and we’re picking a young phenom as our long shot to win. Here’s our pick, the Sony Open odds, betting favorites and everything else you need to know.

Sony Open odds: Long-shot bet

For the first full-field event of the new PGA Tour season, we have our money on rising star Akshay Bhatia as our long shot. Bhatia comes into the week with odds to win of +6600, but there are a few reasons we think he’ll punch above his weight.

Last season, the 21-year-old burst onto the pro golf scene with five PGA Tour top-10 finishes, including a runner-up at the Puerto Rico Open.

But Bhatia broke through for real in July when he captured his first PGA Tour victory at the Barracuda Championship.

That win secured him a spot in last week’s season-opening Sentry event at Kapalua, where Bhatia went 22 under to finish T14, a result that would have been much better if not for his final-round 71.

Should you place $10 on Bhatia to win and he comes through, you’ll earn $660. For insurance, consider placing additional small bets on Bhatia to finish top 10 and top 20.

Looking for more long-shot bets for the Sony Open? Our honorable mentions this week are Luke List (+6600) and Taylor Montgomery (+6600).

Sony Open odds: The favorites

Sitting on top of the odds-to-win list as this week’s betting favorite is young star Ludvig Aberg with +1400 odds to win.

Just behind Aberg are two veteran English pros who are locked at +1600: Matt Fitzpatrick and Tyrrell Hatton.

Rounding out the top five in Sony Open odds are Open champion Brian Harman (+2200) and Russell Henley (+2500).

You can see the top 12 in Sony Open betting odds as of Monday morning below, or head over to BetMGM to see the full list of odds and bets for this week.

How last week’s long shot fared

In our first long-shot column of the year, we picked Keegan Bradley as our long shot at the Sentry with odds to win of +6600. But it wasn’t meant to be.

Rounds of 69-70-72-67 were enough to give Bradley a final score of 14 under, but not enough to keep up with the leaders who were making birdies in bunches. He finished a full 15 shots back.

PAST RESULTS

Check out how our long-shot picks have fared all season long below.
