A stacked leaderboard will play for a tournament-record purse at the PGA Championship on Sunday at Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville, Ky.
Xander Schauffele and Collin Morikawa lead the PGA at 15 under, with Sahith Theegala (14 under) one back and Bryson DeChambeau, Shane Lowry and Viktor Hovland (13 under) two shots back.
The PGA of America announced on Saturday this year’s purse has increased to $18.5 million — a million more than last year — and the winner will take home $3.33 million. Second ($1.99 million) and third place ($1.26 million) will also earn seven figures.
When compared to golf’s others majors, the Masters had a total purse of $20 million last month. The 2023 U.S. Open was $20 million and the 2023 Open Championship $16.5 million. The Players Championship was played for $25 million back in March.
The PGA Tour’s Signature Events have a $20 million purse, and LIV Golf’s tournaments are played for $25 million, although $20 million of that is reserved for the individual competition while $5 million is for the team competition.
