This week the PGA Tour has another Signature Event on tap, the 2024 Memorial Tournament, and we’re picking the player who lost in a playoff last year at Muirfield Village. Here’s our long-shot pick, the Memorial odds, betting favorites and everything else you need to know.
Memorial odds: Long-shot bet
For this week’s Signature Event in Ohio, which features a $20 million purse, we’re picking Denny McCarthy as our long shot with odds-to-win of +6600.
There’s one big reason for our pick: McCarthy nearly won the 2023 Memorial, but surrendered in a playoff to Viktor Hovland.
But that isn’t his only solid past performance at Muirfield Village. He also finished T5 at the 2022 Memorial, which means he has back-to-back top 5s at the famed course.
Somehow McCarthy has never won a PGA Tour event, but he’s already come close again this year. He lost in a playoff at the Valero Texas Open in April and then finished T6 at the Wells Fargo Championship in May.
If you bet $10 on McCarthy to avenge last year’s loss and he does, you’ll earn $660. For insurance, consider placing additional small bets on McCarthy to finish top 10 and top 20.
Looking for more long-shot bets for the Memorial Tournament? This week’s honorable mentions are Shane Lowry (+5000) and Brian Harman (+6600).
Memorial odds: The favorites
Scottie Scheffler is back in action this week, and unsurprisingly the World No. 1 comes in first in odds-to-win at +350.
World No. 2 Rory McIlroy comes in second with +850 odds-to-win, and he’s followed closely by PGA champ Xander Schauffele (+900)
