Editor’s note: J.J. Spaun withdrew from the AT&T Byron Nelson field on Tuesday, May 9th.
This week’s AT&T Byron Nelson is the final PGA Tour event before the second major of the year, and we’re selecting a one-time Tour winner as our long-shot pick. Here’s our pick, the AT&T Byron Nelson betting favorites and everything else you need to know for the week.
AT&T Byron Nelson odds: Long-shot bet
For this week’s AT&T Byron Nelson, we have our long-shot money on veteran J.J. Spaun at +6600 odds-to-win.
Spaun is in the midst of a second consecutive season of solid play. Last year, he captured his first Tour victory at the Valero Texas Open in the same state as this week’s tournament.
So far in 2022-23, Spaun has made 13 of 18 cuts and collected two top-10s.
The Byron Nelson is a low-scoring event, with K.H. Lee bringing home the title last year with a final score of 26 under. Spaun finished T38 at 15 under last year and has shown an ability to perform well in birdie fests, finishing 15 under or better in three tournaments so far this season.
Should you put $10 on Spaun to win and he pulls it off, you’ll earn a cool $660. For an insurance bet or one with less risk, put some money on Spaun to finish top 10 or top 20.
How last week’s long shot fared
At last week’s Wells Fargo Championship, a designated event, we picked Sahith Theegala as our long shot to capture his first PGA Tour victory at +4000 odds-to-win.
Through one round, everything was going according to plan. Theegala opened with a four-under 67 on Thursday at Quail Hollow to get near the top of the leaderboard. But he couldn’t summon the same level of play the rest of the week, closing with rounds of 74, 71 and 73 to finish at one over in a tie for 56th.
