How’s this for a purse increase for golf’s national championship: a whopping $5 million.
The USGA on Saturday announced its total purse and payout breakdown for the 2022 U.S. Open at The Country Club in Brookline, Mass., and the winner will bring home a record-breaking payday from a record-breaking purse.
This year’s purse is $17.5 million, up from last year’s $12.5 million pool. The winner will also see a big increase. This year’s champ gets $3.15 million, almost a million more than what Jon Rahm received ($2.25 million) for winning last year’s U.S. Open at Torrey Pines.
The 2022 Masters and 2022 PGA Championship both offered $15 million purses and paid out $2.7 million to the winners.
The top-three finishers at the U.S. Open all earn over a million, and the top 33 all grab six figures. All 81 pros who missed the cut earned $10,000 each.
