Keith Mitchell holds a two-stroke lead at the 54-hole mark at the 2021 Wells Fargo Championship. The 29-year-old Tennessean (and reigning champ of GOLF.com’s ‘That’s Debatable‘ series) enters Sunday’s final round at 9-under, and if he’s able to hold on, would clinch his second victory as a PGA Tour pro.
Chasing closely behind is a gaggle of top-tier players led by Rory McIlroy, who enters Sunday looking to exorcise 18 months worth of demons in Charlotte. The 32-year-old hasn’t won a professional event since late 2019, nor a PGA Tour event since the Tour Championship earlier that same year. A victory at the Wells Fargo — just weeks after beginning work with renowned swing coach Pete Cowen — would go a long way in bringing back the four-time major winner’s confidence at a key time. McIlroy is just weeks away from competing in the PGA Championship at Kiawah Island, the same location where he claimed victory at the PGA in 2012.
