The 2021 Solheim Cup at the Inverness Club in Toledo, Ohio, is already chock-full of drama and intrigue — and we’re only one day in!

In case you missed Saturday’s action, here’s a quick summary:

The matches were tightly contested, with all four morning foursomes matchups going the full 18 holes. Team USA was nearly skunked by the Europeans, but managed a half point to trail the Europeans 3.5-0.5 at midday.

The afternoon four-ball matches saw the Americans fare a bit better, with Team USA winning two, and the Europeans winning two. Again, the matches were tight, with three of the four going to the 18th hole.

Though Team USA trails Europe 5.5-2.5 after the first day of competition, one of the biggest stories of the day was an unusual rules situation involving Nelly Korda and Ally Ewing. Korda narrowly missed an eagle putt on the 13th hole of her match against Madelene Sagstrom and Nanna Koerstz-Madsen. Sagstrom picked up Korda’s ball to concede her tap-in, but the rules official deemed Korda’s putt holed because the required 10 seconds had not elapsed to allow the ball to potentially drop into the hole on its own.

The ruling turned out to be a huge turning point in the match, as the Americans went 1 up — a lead they maintained through the end.

On Sunday morning, Korda and Ewing will partner again, but this time they’ll face Mel Reid and Leona Maguire in foursomes. Check out the full list of Sunday morning matchups below:
