Two-time major champion Zach Johnson has fallen on tough times since his dramatic playoff win at the 2015 Open Championship St. Andrews. He has failed to capture another win since, and his recent results have been poor, including missing three of his first four cuts to start the new 2021-22 season. Johnson torched the Seaside Course on Thursday for a bogey-free, nine-under 61. Incredibly, that didn’t even earn him the first-round lead. instead, he’s stuck with three others in a tie for second, one shot behind leader Sebastián Muñoz.
For the second round, Johnson will switch to the Plantation Course, which also surrendered a boatload of birdies in Round 1. Johnson tees off Friday at 9:50 a.m. ET alongside Joel Dahmen and Matt Kuchar.
