The 2021 Hawaii swing is in the rearview, so this week the PGA Tour heads to California for the 2021 American Express. Here’s everything you need to know to watch the tournament.

American Express Preview

The last time we saw Phil Mickelson play golf on live TV wasn’t an offical event, but instead the Match: Champions for Change, a.k.a. the Match 3, where he teamed with Charles Barkley to defeat Steph Curry and Peyton Manning at the Stone Canyon Club in Arizona.

But the last official PGA Tour event featuring Lefty was the 2020 Masters in November. Now the 51-year-old Mickelson is back for another year on Tour (perhaps with some detours to the Champions Tour). He’s played in five events since the start of the 2020-21 season back in September, but the early results have not been promising, with a T44 at the Safeway Open representing his best finish so far. But playing in his home state of California could help him turn his fortunes around.

Another player we haven’t seen since the Masters making his 2021 debut this week is four-time major champion Brooks Koepka. Koepka struggled with injuries last year and was unsatisfied with his performance when he did play. Now he will try to get back to his winning ways at the American Express, along with another star pro who has fallen on hard times: Rickie Fowler.

The American Express is played across two courses in La Quinta: the Nicklaus Tournament Course and the Stadium Course, with players alternating between the two over the first two rounds.
