Golf fans may be waiting on bated breath for the carnage that’s sure to greet players at next week’s U.S. Open, but they won’t have to wait that long for an action-packed final round Sunday. On Sunday morning at the Safeway Open in Napa, Calif., 11 golfers woke up within two strokes of the lead.
At the very top of the pile were Brian Stuard, Cameron Percy and James Hahn. The trio of players entered the final round tied for first at 16 under after the three players combined to shoot nine rounds in the 60s to open the weekend. But for all the work Stuard, Percy and Hahn did to put themselves in the pole position heading into Sunday, this year’s Safeway has fallen under the influence of one Harry Higgs.
The bombastic pro entered Sunday one stroke off the lead at 15 under, but already earned the affection of the golf world for his nap-ruining Friday albatross. The 28-year-old enters Sunday looking for his first PGA Tour victory.
Below is the payout information and winner’s share for the Safeway Open’s $6.6 million purse; you can catch all the action on Sunday on Golf Channel starting at 6:00 p.m. ET.
