One of golf’s most noteworthy couples, Paulina Gretzky and Dustin Johnson, recently sat down for their first-ever joint interview on the latest episode of The Scoop with Claire Rogers.
While there was plenty to talk about — their appearance on Netflix’s Full Swing, what it’s like for Dustin to coach the couple’s two young sons, and the story behind their first date — one particularly emotional moment involved Paulina’s retelling of the aftermath of Dustin’s 2020 Masters victory.
Dustin won the 2020 Masters — his second career major — by five shots over Sungjae Im and Cameron Smith. That year, the tournament was played in November after being postponed due to the pandemic.
“It was in 2020, so I was the only one allowed to go,” Paulina said. “He won, I drove back, I hugged my kids, my mom and dad, it was … [voice catches] Oh, my God. It was amazing. Like, really, really special. Oh my God, it gets me choked up, it’s the worst.
“But like, a celebration, whole family flying home,” she continued. “I mean, all celebrating around Dustin. We just knew it was gonna happen. He was around people that loved and supported him, and he just — it’s crazy how you know from the beginning, but we are not allowed to say it in front of him, because he’s like, no, you have to have the car packed and ready to go, or I need to be ready to be out there when he wins. So I’m like, great! Those options are a little opposite. But I’ll be ready.
“So I was ready.”
