This year’s PGA Championship is being played at Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville, Ky. — one of the great bourbon epicenters in the world, and where nearly all of it is made. Louisville is the only city in the world with more than 10 distillery experiences, a bourbon cocktail and culinary trail — even bourbon-themed accommodations and shopping.
While sampling bourbon straight-up might not be for everyone, palate-pleasing cocktails made with bourbon abound. Among them: the venerable Old Fashioned, which is crafted with simple syrup, bitters and a touch of orange. It’s a classic cocktail, and one that’s easier to make than you’d think.
Chance Cozby, whose food-focused Instagram and TikTok accounts (@3piecesofpecan) boast a combined following of more than 1.3 million, recently demonstrated his easy-to-replicate method for crafting a delicious Old Fashioned at home.
Check out his recipe below, and for a full tutorial, you can watch the video above.
Chance Cozby’s perfect Old Fashioned cocktail
Ingredients:
-Bourbon
-Simple syrup
-Orange bitters
-Orange slice
-Ice
-Cherry garnish
In a lowball glass, start with a couple of squirts of simple syrup. Next, add a few dashes of bitters. Then, place an orange slice in the bottom of the glass and muddle the flesh of the orange with the simple syrup and bitters.
“What muddling does, it just releases the flavors,” Cozby says. “This is gonna maximize the flavor of that orange slice.”
After the muddling, pour in a couple ounces of bourbon and top with ice. The final touch? A cherry for garnish.
The result: A cocktail that’s damn good!
