Here’s why this NFL tight end loves watching Bryson DeChambeau

Trey McBride only picked up golf shortly after he was drafted by the Arizona Cardinals in 2022.

Now, the tight end is hooked, which has given him a new appreciation for watching the best players on the PGA Tour play the game.

“Now that I play golf, I realize how good these guys really are because I’m like, s—, it’s hard to what those guys do and how precise and, you know, how close they get to, you know, all this stuff,” McBride told GOLF Subpar co-hosts Colt Knost and Drew Stoltz on this week’s podcast. “They’re just so good. So now that I play golf, I really have a a more appreciation for for how good they really are.”

Aside from Wyndham Clark, who also hails from McBride’s homestate of Colorado, his favorite players to watch all share one trait with the Cardinals pass catcher: They’re large human beings.

McBride lists 6-foot-3 World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler and 6-foot-1 220-plus-pound Bryson DeChambeau as his two other favorite players to watch.

“He’s a big dude, so he just hits the ball miles,” McBride said of DeChambeau. “So that’s like that’s kind of when I’m done playing football I’m going to be a golfer like him.”

That’s when Stoltz reminded the trio of how much weight DeChambeau lost after his bulk around the time of the pandemic lockdowns and when he won his lone major at the 2020 U.S. Open. He guessed DeChambeau weighed around 250 lbs during that time.

“Yeah, I’m 245 [lbs], so he could have been a tight end,” McBride joked.

“That would have been a nice little battle,” Stoltz replied.

You can check out the complete interview with McBride below, in which he breaks down growing up a year-round athlete in Colorado, life in the NFL, the best tight ends in football and more.
