For those lucky enough to get the chance to play Augusta National, the experience is one they never forget. It’s a truth for everyone from the everyman to the most influential people on the planet. Augusta National is special for everyone.
NFL wide receiver (not to mention golf enthusiast) Larry Fitzgerald is among the lucky few who has gotten the chance to play at Augusta National, and the experience is one that is etched into his memory.
“Every time you play it it’s a privilege to not only be on the golf course, but to be on the grounds,” Fitzgerald said on this week’s episode of GOLF’s Subpar. “Every single detail is immaculately done. Not a chip of paint is ever out of place. There are no leaves on the ground. It’s unbelievable to see the level of detail that’s done there.

“I remember the first time I came in there, I was just elated,” he continued. “I had never been to the tournament. The first time I was on property was the first time I played it. Driving down [Magnolia Lane], I’m like a kid again with my fingers on the window looking at everything. I was feeling an overwhelming sense of gratitude.”
Fitzgerald is one of the luckiest of those fortunate enough to play Augusta National as he’s played there “a few times.”
Like all good things though, rounds at Augusta National have to come to an end. For Fitzgerald, it’s always a sobering walk as he comes up the hill on No. 18 toward the clubhouse.
“I was depressed walking up 18,” Fitzgerald said. “Because it’s over, and you never know if you’ll have the opportunity to come back again.”
