How this major winner impressed Owen Wilson during ‘Stick’ cameo

Golf fans, rejoice! A new golf-centric show premieres today on Apple TV+.

“Stick” is a 10-episode series starring Owen Wilson as Pryce Cahill, a former Tour pro whose career derailed prematurely 20 years ago. When viewers meet Pryce, his life is in shambles: his marriage has collapsed, and he gets fired from his job at an Indiana sporting goods store. But a chance encounter with a 17-year-old (played by Peter Dager) loaded with talent gives Pryce’s life new purpose and direction.

The show’s first three episodes premiere on Apple TV+ on Wednesday, with new episodes debuting weekly until the show’s finale on July 23. The ensemble cast includes Marc Maron, Mariana Trevino, Lilli Kay, Judy Greer and Timothy Olyphant, and is also packed with cameos from Tour stars, broadcasters, media personalities and influencers.

In fact, there was one Tour star — and U.S. Open champ — whose acting chops impressed Wilson on set.

“What I thought was interesting — and it didn’t surprise me — is how, obviously they aren’t actors, but I thought that they’d be able to do it because I find that these professional athletes are performers, [and can] sort of steady themselves and deliver under pressure,” Wilson said of the handful of Tour players who made an appearance on the show. “Wyndham Clark had, to me, what’s kind of a tricky scene as an actor: acting surprised to see someone. That’s a hard thing to kind of act, and he had to do that and I watched him just kind of get ready and fine tune it as we went along and he just nailed it.”

In addition to Clark, golf fans can also look forward to seeing Max Homa, Keegan Bradley, Collin Morikawa and Jim Nantz over the course of the show.
