A handy distance device

Golf Buddy aim V10

$129.99
Get your yardages faster with the Aim V1. This talking GPS device reads your distances to the front, back and center of the green at the push of a button. The aim V10 is the perfect item for any golfer who wants a small lightweight device that can clip on and head out on the course. This provides the user freedom from the hassle of carrying round and trying to read a traditional laser rangefinder, but still clued up on their distances for club selection.

Confession: I have never owned a distance-measuring device. I’m not into watches or peering through distance-measuring peepholes. I’m generally pretty old-school and either walk off sprinkler-head yardage, or mooch off a playing partner’s laser. But Golf Buddy’s Aim V10 really appeals to me for a lot of reasons. It’s small, lightweight and compact. It’s super simple to use, and I don’t have to physically wear it to glean its benefits. To top it off, it also comes in — gasp! — ROSE GOLD? Consider me sold. — Jessica Marksbury

Yep, I’m one of those guys who prefers to play golf in a hoodie when the temperature drops. Judge me if you must, but it’s my go-to when I don’t want to spring for a jacket, which is often these days. The cotton/cashmere blend keeps me plenty warm on a chilly day, and the understated waffle texture punches it up a bit. I see a couple more of these in my future for future fall/winter golf trips. — Jonathan Wall

Not only am I playing lots of golf this winter, I actually prefer it to golf in the summer. There’s no risk of heatstroke, and courses everywhere are far less crowded, allowing me to struggle with my game in peace. My key to playing in bad weather is to suit up with plenty of warm layers, and Linksoul’s Boardwalker hooded jacket is on my list this year. Hoodies are my preferred outwear on the course for the comfort and warmth they provide, and the Boardwalker is water and wind resistant to boot. — Kevin Cunningham

A pair of trusty golf shoes

Adidas Tour360 XT

Alright, I’ll admit it: I’m something of a traditionalist when it comes to golf shoes. All these new-fangled spikeless shoes LOOK cool, but I just can’t get myself to separate from the stability and comfort of my old-school spikes. This Christmas, how about a compromise? I won’t have to worry about swinging out of Adidas’ Tour 360 XT shoes, but they’re also cool enough to wear around my golfing buddies. Can you say, win-win? — James Colgan

A do-it-all tool

An upgrade to your golf clubs

Somewhere between cheap, generic-looking beginner’s sets and spendy name-brand clubs, the recently launched Stix Golf has created its own market: beautiful, minimalist, modern clubs at a good price. Its 12-piece set (driver, 3w, 5w, 4h, 5-SW, putter) sells for $799 but throughout December can be had at 20% off. A new shaft to fix your putting woes

True Temper Double Bend .370″ Left-handed Putter Shaft

$12.99
The True Temper Double Bend putter shaft comes in multiple offsets to fit your putting needs, and at a competitive price.

This is the shaft everybody is talking about, the perfect gift for the yipping right-handed golfer in your life. The idea is to take a two-way putter (any classic Bullseye will do) and put in the goose-necked left-handed putter shaft cited here. (Yes, the insertion will require some retrofitting.) The idea, as an anti-yip fix, is to putt the short ones from the left, with the hands in front of the putter’s face, as a function of the left-handed goose-neck shaft. In other words, the putter now has offset, which it did not before. For longer putts, it can be used right-handed, with onset. Your loved ones will thank you! — Michael Bamberger

The perfect starter set

These from Callaway come in three different sizes depending on height, are easy to hit and increase launch. They’ll help make any junior golfer better, and simply unwrapping a gift like this — a cool set of pristine, shiny clubs with a sweet bag to match — is enough to get any kid excited to hit some golf balls. — Josh Berhow
