7 SPF moisturizers that will protect your skin on the golf course

Four hours on a high UV-index day can really take a toll on your skin, so it's important to take protective measures before (and during) your round.

Golfers spend A LOT of time in the sun. Four hours (or five, or six, depending on where you’re playing) on a high UV-index day can really take a toll on your skin. It’s so, so important to take protective measures before (and during) your round.

Luckily, many golf clothes are constructed with some level UPF protection already. Definitely, wear a hat or some shades to protect your eyes and face, and, of course, bring along some sunscreen.

An expert's four favorite sunscreens for golfers to use on the course
By: Jessica Marksbury

The last part — sunscreen — is the most obvious way to protect your skin. We know the importance of sunscreen and were likely taught by parents or told by dermatologists to apply it every single day. Even if you’re not going to be laying on a beach or lounging poolside. Still, I forget all too often. If you’re in the same boat, opt for a daily moisturizer with SPF.

Once sunscreen becomes a part of your skincare routine, it’s much easier to follow through with daily SPF application. You should still be reapplying every two hours for maximum effectiveness, but since moisturizers come in small packaging, they’re easy to throw in your purse, leave in your locker, or carry around in your golf bag. Never get caught without sunscreen again!

Below, I’ve rounded up a few great options for every budget and skin type.

Olay Age Defying Classic Daily Renewal Lotion – SPF 15

$12.99 – This lightweight lotion prevents premature signs of aging like fine lines and wrinkles all while replenishing your skin’s hydration and keeping you protected from sunburn. It’s an inexpensive option for golfers looking for broad-spectrum coverage.

CeraVe AM Facial Moisturizing Lotion – SPF 30

$17.99 – Another inexpensive moisturizer that’s easy to stow in your golf locker. Put this on in the morning and provide your skin with all-day UV protection. The fragrance-free, gentle formula is a great option for golfers with sensitive skin.

Glossier Invisible Shield – SPF 35

$25 – The lightweight water-gel formula means this SPF won’t leave any greasy residue or white cast on your face. It instantly absorbs into your skin, so even if you’re in a rush, you can put it on while doing your makeup without wasting any time.

Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Cream – SPF 30

$32 – This 24-hour hydrator is particularly great for harsh weather conditions — think windy fall golf. It provides continuous moisture replenishment to protect against dryness, even on the coldest of days. Wear this moisturizer year round to stay protected from the sun and the wind.

Supergoop Superscreen Daily Moisturizer – SPF 40

$38 – Superscreen really is super. The ultra-hydrating, non-toxic formula protects from UVA (aging) and UVB (burning) sun rays. It’s super lightweight and wears great under makeup.

Malin + Goetz Face Moisturizer – SPF 30

$40 – A no-fuss hydrating moisturizer that shields your skin from from sun rays, free radicals and environmental toxins. It’s fast-absorbing for easy, everyday wear.

Naturopathica Daily UV Defense Cream – SPF 50

$64 – This non-toxic, hydrating formula can go over your makeup for easy reapplication all day long. It’s subtly matte, so you’ll never need to worry about looking shiny.
