The PGA Tour hits the Big Easy this week for the 2022 Zurich Classic of New Orleans team event. Masters champ Scottie Scheffler makes his return and is joining forces with the 2019 Zurich champion, but, according to the Zurich Classic odds via BetMGM, they aren’t the favorites. Here’s what you need to know.
2022 Zurich Classic odds: This week’s favorites
Thursday will see the first round by World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler since his Masters triumph, but it won’t be your typical round. Since 2017, the Zurich Classic has been a two-player team event, and Scheffler is teaming up with Ryan Palmer, who happens to be the 2019 Zurich champion. His winning partner that year? The last World No. 1, Jon Rahm. Team Palmer/Rahm returned in 2021 and finished seventh in their title defense.
Despite their formidable resumes, Scheffler and Palmer come in fifth in odds-to-win at +1100. The two teams tied as favorites are understandable (Patrick Cantlay/Xander Schauffele and Viktor Hovland/Collin Morikawa at +800), but the team of Sam Burns and Billy Horschel also rank above Scheffler/Palmer in terms of odds to win at +1000. To be fair, Horschel won the Zurich Classic in 2018 alongside Scott Piercy and in 2014 before it was a team event.
2022 Zurich Classic odds: Long shot of the week
For this week’s long shot, why not go to the team with longest odds of them all? In New Orleans, the family duo of Bill and Jay Haas share that honor at +75000.
For those not in the know, Bill is a 39-year-old six-time PGA Tour winner who captured the FedEx Cup title in 2011. Jay is Bill’s dad, but he’s also a nine-time Tour champion and an 18-time winner on the PGA Tour Champions.
