This week, the PGA Tour heads south of the border for the 2022 Mexico Open at Vidanta. Despite a full field of Tour pros, only one player can be considered a betting favorite according to the Mexico Open odds via BetMGM. Here’s what you need to know.
2022 Mexico Open odds: This week’s favorites
As far as the favorites for this week go, the oddsmakers are putting all their faith in one man: Jon Rahm. The former World No. 1 is by far the most accomplished player in the field in Mexico, and his odds reflect that. At +450, Rahm is way out in front of everyone else.
The player in second, Abraham Ancer, is at +1600 to win, a rarity given that the difference between the top two players, if there’s any difference at all, is usually only +100 or +200.
But despite that, he deserves a long look from bettors. Ancer grew up in Reynosa, Mexico, and will likely have a lot of support from the galleries. In addition, he has two top-10s on the year, including recently at the WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play
2022 Mexico Open odds: Long shot of the week
Martin Trainer is a long shot in every tournament he tees it up in right now, by way of an enormous amount of missed cuts in the past few years. Trainer aready has 14 MCs this season, but there a few things that suggest Trainer could be in for a solid week.
First of all, despite all the MCs, Trainer also has two top-10s in 2021-22: a T5 at the Houston Open and a T7 a month ago at the Corales Puntacana Championship in the Dominican Republic. His only PGA Tour win? The 2019 Puerto Rico Open. Clearly, there’s something about tournaments in warmer climes within the Western hemisphere that bring out the best in Trainer. At +40000, should he win it all, you could turn a $100 bet into $40,000.
