Picks to win

Colt: Xander Schauffele, +1800
“It’s kind of a tricky little golf course. I think it’s a second-shot golf course. I like this man’s odds. He’s going to win a major championship at some point. Why not the U.S. Open?”

Drew: Patrick Cantlay, +1700
“I’m picking its best friend and twin brother, perhaps, Patrick Cantlay at 17 to 1. Rahm and Scottie are the cream of the crop, right? Brooks Koepka, throw him in there too. Like they’re in a different league. Just the odds aren’t there for them. I know Cantlay hasn’t had maybe the major championship finishes that we expect from him, but 14th last year, top-10 at the PGA this year, if you’re talking patience and also just having played this golf course and having a little experience with it, I think plays a factor this week.”

Dark horses

Colt: Sahith Theegala, +10000
“These odds are big, but I don’t know really why. He went to school in California at Pepperdine. He kind of hits it all over the place, but he’s a wizard around the greens, and he’s a great shot maker and he has a great attitude. You mentioned patience. This guy’s got it. So why not make your first PGA Tour win a major championship? Give it to me, Sahith Theegala, 100-to-1.”

Drew: Jason Day, +5000
“The guy’s got a major championship. He’s a former world No. 1. He also won earlier this year. His game has made a complete resurrection. He’s hitting it good. As you mentioned with Sahith, his short game is spectacular. Maybe the best bunker player in the world for my money. The putter is extraordinary as well. Give me Jason Day 50-to-1.”
